The sand is normal foundry sand with a standard binding agent. It is first packed into a steel flask (a regular item in a sand casting foundry) and then allow to set for a few hours. Standing the flask on end helps with the removal of the loose material as it is machined off. Flanks are sometimes literally as big as cars and can weight 20-30,000lbs

what is this blank being carved from? The title says sand mold but it is held vertically how does sand stay like that?

We haven't done enough testing with it yet to know, it's still in developmental stages converting all of our files and programs to the new KRC4 controller. But so far we like what we see!
